Gloria O. Garza was called home by the Lord on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas. She was 77 years old. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a long, hard-fought battle with Leukemia. Gloria was born on May 7, 1941 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas to Juan Olivares and Sylvestra Galvan. She is preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Mac Terrell, her sisters Rosa Maria Olivares, Elvia Masslock, Margarita Olivares and her brothers Rudy Olivares, Rene Olivares and Benito Olivares.
Left to cherish her memory are her five adoring children: Robert O. Lopez (Maria Herlinda), Sandra Lopez-Langley, Rudy O. Lopez (Judy), Sylvia Lopez (Diane) and Jerry O. Lopez (Tammy); Her 19 grandchildren: Jamie Lynn Lopez-Martinez (Sam), Kristen Nicole Lopez-Gunter (Troy), Robert Lopez Jr.,, Stephanie Langley (Eduardo) John David Langley (Itzmel), Jennifer Lopez, Elisa Lopez, Matthew Garcia, Jeremy Garcia, Leah N. Garcia, Katherine Garcia, Christian Garcia, Sam Joseph Greco, Katherine Greco, Rudy Greco, Jamie Johnson, James Johnson, Jordyn Johnson, Brooke Lopez and her nine great-grandchildren: Aaron Martinez, Keyla Martinez, Samuel Austin Martinez Jr., Thor Alexander Gunter, Rylee Noel Gunter, Sophia Bermudez, Julian Langley, Jaylynn Anderson and Skylar Quinton. Also, a brother Juan Olivares (Mary), a sister Maria De Jesus Moreno (Gilberto) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Garza was a Head Cook at Furrs' Cafeteria for over thirty years in both Victoria, Texas and late in Brownsville, Texas when she moved back in 1996 to raise her pride and joy; her grandson "Robby". Upon retirement, in 2009, Gloria became an active member of the Good Neighbor Settlement House Quilter's Club. For the past 9 Years, Gloria has dedicated her life to raising her beloved Great-Grandson "Sammy" and running around Driscoll Children's Hospital and Athlos Leadership Academy being "NANA" as everyone affectionately called her.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 11am to 9pm with a Rosary at 7pm in Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church followed by a committal service to Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be: Robert Lopez, Jr., Aaron Martinez, Johnny Olivares, Sam Joseph Greco, James Johnson and William David Langley.
