Jesus R. Ojeda Sr., a United States WW II Veteran, is now celebrating in Heaven with his Lord, Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. His head cradled lovingly in the arms of his daughter, Maria Alicia, and under the loving care and prayers of honorary family members: Maria Luisa Benavides, Maria Sylvia Ruiz, and his best friend, David Vega, his last words were “Jesus Loves you.”
Earlier this year, Jesus R. Ojeda Sr. celebrated his 100th birthday gleefully shouting, “I’m 100 Years Old!!” with his loving wife, Estela Ojeda, their loving family and precious FB friends and was thrilled to receive hundreds of blessings in person and online. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren absolutely adored him. Neighbors affectionately called him “Don Chuy” and often visited to hear his eye witness account detailing his military experience en route to Japan when Japan surrendered. Recently, Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. found out that Jesus R. Ojeda's medals had been stolen after the war and graciously presented him with recognition for his service: WORLD WAR 2 VICTORY MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, WITH ONE BRONZE STAR, PHILIPPINE LIBERATION RIBBON WITH ONE BRONZE STAR GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. Always with a tender heart, filled with lots of love to share. Jesus rescued a feisty Chihuahua, Penny Lane Misteriosa, from the animal shelter on April 5, 2016, and looked forward to her jumping into his arms daily when he softly called out, “Where’s Penny?”. In fact, he rescued several animals and provided lovingly for their care.
Enthusiastic about life, he enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys every football season, CNN daily, eating Church’s Chicken for dinner, Whataburger Biscuits and gravy every Sunday morning; Most of all, he enjoyed eating Chuy’s delicious menudo on Christmas, Father’s Day and his Birthday. He also enjoyed music, motorcycles, reading the Sunday comics, and drawing cartoon characters. As a longtime resident of Brownsville, TX, he managed the Majestic Theater for many years and most recently celebrated every Father’s Day enjoying an action movie and dinner at Sunrise Mall after which he would jokingly say to his best friend, “Thanks Dave. Hope I’m around next year.” Most importantly, Jesus expressed his deep faith in the Lord Jesus daily, praying blessings out loud for all the family and friends in his life, taking communion provided to his home by St. Luke’s Catholic Church, and celebrating by online praise and worship provided by Ministerio Restauracion Y Poder.
Services celebrating his life on Earth and in Heaven will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, Sunday, July 4, 2021 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in Chapel of Peace. A chapel service will be held on Monday, July 5, 2021 at 10 a.m. in Chapel of Peace, followed by a burial with military honors in Buena Vista Burial Park.
