He was born in Brownsville, Texas on December 3, 1936, to John and Caroline Hunter. John received his Bachelors of Education from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He went to work for the Brownsville Independent School District (Lincoln Park), for 27 years, as a special education teacher. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge and was an active member of the 1st Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mariko Hunter; son, John C. Hunter Jr.; daughter, Michelle John; sisters, Carolyn Winans and Betty Godfrey ; 7 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 5pm – 8pm with a prayer service at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
A chapel service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 10am at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista with interment to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
