
Jose Alfredo Garza, Sr., "Jumbo," 84, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011. Jose was born April 10, 1927, in Brownsville, Texas, and remained a lifelong resident. At age 19 he met his beloved wife, Rose H. Garza, with whom he spent the last 65 years of his life committed to and loving until the day he passed. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Jose was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in World War II. After his service in the Air Force, he worked at Burton Auto for 38 years, from where he retired and was nicknamed "Jumbo."
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Manuel Garza and Antonia Garcia Garza; his brothers Manuel Garza Jr. and Gustavo Garza; and son, Jose A. Garza Jr.
Surviving him are his wife, Rosa H. Garza; his sons, Arnulfo Garza, Armando Garza (Delia), Charles Louis Garza; his daughters, Maria Antonia Rich (David), Maria Annette Perez (David) and Maria Azure Sanchez (Jesus); and daugther-in-law, Mirta Garza. Also remaining are his 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, May 16, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2405 E. Tyler, Brownsville, from 1 to 9 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7 p.m.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 17, at 10 a.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jacob Garza, David Perez Jr., Daniel Perez, Jacob Rich, Jesus Sanchez, Jr. and Jose Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers are Jose A. Garza III and Arnulfo Garza Jr.
