It is with heavy, yet expectant hearts, that we announce the passing of Maria A. Guerra, of Brownsville Texas. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to spend time outdoors taking care of her gardens, plants, and fruit trees. You could always find her in the kitchen humming to worship songs, making homemade tortillas and tamales and welcoming anyone into her home and around her table. She served her church, Iglesia Bautista West Brownsville, faithfully, and was one of the founding members 50 years ago. As a young girl Maria had a passion for singing and dancing, which is carried on in her children and grandchildren today. Her family was one of her greatest joys, and her love for them was evident in everything she did. She loved Jesus with her whole heart, and depended on Him alone for her salvation. She was a powerful prayer warrior --- when she would tell you she'd pray for you, she would, sometimes in the middle of the night. As her children we are so grateful for her example of servanthood, humility, quiet strength, and perseverance through the trials and tribulations of life. We look forward to the day we see her again in Glory.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Inez Guerra, her sister Minerva Martinez, and her daughter Martha Fries.
Maria’s legacy lives on through her children: Cesar Guerra (Maria), Carlos Guerra (Leticia), Rolando Guerra (Ana), Arnoldo Guerra (Sylvia), Esperanza Candler (Tom), and Maribel Guerra. Her grandchildren: Amy Guerra, Cesar Guerra Jr., Yvette Guerra, Emmanuel Guerra, Monica Esquibel, Carlos Guerra Jr., Sarah Tristan, Rolando Guerra Jr., Roberto Guerra, Mateo Guerra, Marcos Guerra, Josiah Candler, Sierra Henderson, Lenna Chapa, Elita Nafziger, Hannah Candler, and numerous great-grandchildren who she loved deeply and prayed for faithfully.
