

Beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, mentor and friend. Raul J. Leal Jr. was a business man, musician, soldier and devoted to service in the church music ministry program. As a Korean War Veteran in the Navy serving on the USS John W. Thomason, he continued his service to Veterans as the longest serving Commander of The American Legion John Hanson Post 43, where he was able to relocate and fully pay for the land and building where the Post currently resides. He was bestowed the highest honor of a Proclamation from the City of Brownsville for his role in serving Veterans and being an integral part of initializing and realizing the completion of the Brownsville Veterans Park. He also served as board member of the Southmost Veterans Parade Committee. His passion for music led him to have a TRIO and ultimately to join the church music ministry in several Catholic churches, where he played and mentored several choir directors.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Belinda Leal Rodriguez, Roy (Anna) Leal, Gloria (Cesario) Montalvo, Eva Lorena (Victor) Cuellar and Ralph Leal; 11 grandchildren, Roy Jr., Mark, Raul, Roman, Yvette, Samantha, Victoria, Lynette, Salma, Cesar and Victor Jr. ; brothers, Roberto Leal and Rolando H. Leal and sisters, Elma Leal Hernandez and Sylvia Leal Castro.
Visitation will be held from 10am to 12pm at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, visitation will continue from 1pm to 9pm with a rosary at 7pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Monday, Sept. 28, 2015.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at 2pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, with committal service to follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Full Military Honors will be conducted by The American Legion John Hanson Post 43 Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
