Ruben was a childhood friend and we grew up in las prietas. We also traveled up north with our families to work in the fields. Attended Garden Park Elementary and then Stell Junior High. Throughout the year we remain good friends. I will miss my friend and regret not saying goodbye. Until we meet again my little brother safer journey.

To the Beautiful Hernandez Ladies ~
Sylvia, Cindy, Monica, Mayra, Jennifer, and Cassandra,

I am still in disbelief of Ruben’s passing, and I cannot begin to express how heavy my heart is with empathy for all of you. I know of the bond and love each of you had with him. And oh my goodness, the love that he had for each of you was always apparent!!! All of you and the grandchildren were his joy in life. He told me one time that it was his wish for all of his girls and their families to move into one big house with him and Sylvia!

Ruben was one of a kind. I think my biggest memories I have when working with Ruben was him always wanting to trade, bargain, or make a deal of some kind with someone, well, really anyone...allowing animals/chickens in the camp from time to time when that was clearly against policy, and Ruben never really understanding why that would be an issue...never fully appreciating a deadline ~ it is like that vocab word never developed in his brain...any payroll info submitted a bit late or incorrectly would "all be ok or fixed later," according to Ruben... loved making a party...always talking extremely fast...always driving somewhere in his truck, and never staying in one spot for too long….And I can hear Ruben's voice in my head right now, as I heard the following statement from him countless times over the many years: "Danna, make me a check." All of these memories and Ruben's unconventional ways make me smile.

I encourage you to seek God's love and accept our Savior's comfort and strength, support one another, show grace in difficult moments, forgive quickly, and allow each person to grieve and heal in their own way and time.

I know Ruben's memories will forever be cherished, that the fondness and stories will always be abundant at future family gatherings, and trust that there will be a peace that will develop within each of you.

With tremendous love and friendship,
Danna
