Susana was born on June 18, 1963, in Brownsville, Texas, to Susana R. Moreno and the late Jose I. Moreno. From an early age, Susana brought warmth, creativity, and joy into the lives of everyone around her. Her heart was as generous as her spirit was strong, and her legacy of love will be forever cherished by those who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Hector Casarez, the love of her life and her partner in all things. Their time together was precious, full of deep affection and laughter, though not nearly long enough. She loved Hector with all her heart, and their bond was one of the truest expressions of love.
Susana leaves behind her beloved children: Guillermo Lopez (Beatriz), Nancy Lopez, and Martin Casarez (Lumturije Tatari). She was a proud and doting grandmother to 11 beautiful grandchildren, each of whom lit up her world and gave her immeasurable joy. Her mother, Susana R. Moreno, and her five siblings also survive her, along with countless extended family members and friends who were touched by her love.
Susana was preceded in death by her father Jose I. Moreno, her siblings Javier Moreno, Raul Ruiz, David Moreno, Emiliano Moreno, and her niece Viviana R. Aguilar. We take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with them, wrapped in everlasting peace and light.
In life, Susana found happiness in the simple and meaningful moments. She was an artist at heart and loved spending her time doing arts and crafts, especially making bracelets for those she loved. With each piece she created, she shared a part of her heart. She also had a deep love for Tejano music, and nothing brought her more joy than listening and dancing to her favorite artist, Jimmy Gonzalez. Music filled her home and soul, and her laughter was often the perfect harmony to the rhythm in the background.
She had a beautiful gift for making people laugh, her sense of humor and joyful spirit uplifting even the darkest days. But above all, her greatest joy came from being a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. She cherished every moment with her family—whether gathered for celebrations or simply sharing quiet conversations. Her love was the thread that held everyone together.
Susana's absence leaves a hole in our hearts, but her memory will forever live on in the love she gave, the joy she spread, and the lives she shaped. Her hands may have been small, but they built a life full of meaning, and her heart held an endless capacity for love.
To honor and celebrate Susana’s beautiful life, funeral services will be held beginning with a visitation on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Chapel of Peace, at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, located at 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78521. A rosary will take place that evening from 7:00 PM at the same location. On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, a funeral mass will be held at 12:00 PM at St. Eugene de Mazenod Catholic Church, 5409 Austin Rd, Brownsville, TX 78521. After the mass, Susana will be laid to rest at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Rd, Brownsville, TX 78526.
