Abel Lara

Abel Lara Sr., 73, of Bryan, passed away November 18, 2010 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 22 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with a prayer service at 7. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 23 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.

Abel was born January 13, 1937 in Bryan to Manuel and Maria Lara. He graduated from SFA in 1957 where he played in the band and on the basketball team. He later married Victoria Bosquez on June 24, 1961. He worked for International Furniture until 1995 and then worked for Tom Light Chevrolet.

He is preceded in death by his brother Jessie Villegas and wife Sulema; sister Beatrice and husband Mike Cantu.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years Victoria Lara; sons Abel Lara Jr. and wife Tammy of Houston, Arthur Lara and wife Alenda of College Station, Adrian Locust Lara of Bryan; brother Santiago Hernandez and wife Andrea; sister Elida Salinas, and Abigail Miller; grandchildren Stephanie Lara, Lina Carroll, Kenda Carroll, Alyssa Lara, Dylan Lara, and Adrian Matthew Lara.
