Catherine Imogene Abshire

Catherine Imogene Tibbs Abshire, born to Earnest Dewey Tibbs and Isabell Annie Roten Tibbs on December 31, 1927, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Catherine enjoyed cooking for her family and loved organizing annual family reunions. She was a member of Northview Baptist Church in Bryan, worked as a bookkeeper most of her life, and was a member of the Sunshine Auxiliary at The Med, serving as their treasurer for many years. She loved spending time with family, friends, and the Lord. One would often find her reading the Bible, her Sunday School lesson, or a Guidepost devotional.

Catherine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband-Carlton J. Abshire; her brothers— E.D. Tibbs and D. Wayne Tibbs; sisters—Gladys Kirk and Dorothy Sorrells; her daughter Linda Tracy and grandson Shannon Tracy; nephew Larry Tibbs and nieces Betty Faye Oliver and Jimmie Dean Dodds.

She is survived by her daughter Cheri Miller, son Keith Abshire, grandson David Tracy and wife Jessica; cousin Fred Scott; and her nieces and nephews: Virginia Brewer and husband Jerry, Jeanine Konviska, Dennis Tibbs and wife Pat, Nancy Wheeler and husband James, Don Sorrells and wife Georgia, Jimmy Sorrells, Paula Sorrells-Beene and husband Ed; and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Interment will be held at Concord Cemetery in Iola.
