

Doris Ellen Gasek, 91, passed away Monday July 29, 2013 at St. Joseph Manor in Bryan. Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with a Rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan with Reverend Monsignor John McCaffrey officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Doris was born March 23, 1922 in Cumby, TX, to Claudia Ann Childers and John Franklin Yawn. She married John Leo Gasek, Jr. of Brenham on October 26, 1946. She and John first made their home in Freeport, Texas, and later settled in Bryan where they raised their 5 children. She owned and operated Cactus Novelties in Bryan for 15 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Age Managers Group, Brazos County Senior Citizens and was a long time Auxiliary volunteer with St. Joseph Hospital.
Doris will be most remembered for her love of gardening and nature, playing dominoes with friends and her persistent independence which was exemplified throughout her entire life. She was a strong woman, self-sufficient and determined to succeed in every trial she faced. Her unwavering love for God and her family kept her strong, a love that never changed or failed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John L. Gasek, Jr.; one son, Patrick Smith Gasek; four brothers, Elmo, Preston, Wilburn, and Eugene; and one sister, Lucille.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Delores and George Harmon of Wellborn, Angela and Steve Lindeen of LaPorte, daughter Patricia Ryals of Houston, and son and daughter-in-law John and Theresa Gasek of Bryan; grandchildren Brad Harmon, Chad Harmon, Steven Lindeen and wife Windi, Chris Lindeen, Ray Hoot, Stephanie Bienski and husband Pete, John Gasek and wife Lindsay, and 9 great grandchildren who all loved her dearly.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the excellent care Doris received at St. Joseph Manor and also to her caregivers throughout the years.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic School.
