

Bro. Earnest Newton, 99, passed away in Round Rock on July 1, 2011. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 8 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Internment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Bro. Earnest Newton was born February 15, 1912 to Mr. Robert Newton and Mrs. Elmyra Wilson Newton in Bryan. Bro. Newton was raised in the communities of Pleasant Hill and Fairview.
At an early age, Bro. Earnest Newton confessed his hope in Christ, and has been a loyal member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (for over 90 years), where he served as an usher until his health failed him.
God saw Bro. Earnest was tired from his labor on earth and whispered and said “Come rest my Child”, your work on earth is done, on July 1, 2011 having a humble spirit, he surrendered to the will of God and went to be with him in heaven. He is reunited with his parents; sister Sarah Newton Davis; daughters Nanny Newton Hall and Lovie Jewel Newton; sons Lawrence Newton, Billy Joe Newton I, Charles V. Newton, and James Newton; a host of cousins, aunts, and uncles that were dear to him.
His loving family left to cherish his memory and anticipate a glorious reunion according to 1 Thessalonian 4:16-17 are his loving wife of 59 years Eva Nell Newton; sons Earnest Newton, Jr (Bertha), Dennis Newton, Donald Ray Newton (Lovie), Dwayne Newton (Tonya), Rev. Archa Newton (Delma), B. J. Newton, Travis Jones, and Earnest Hall; daughters Helen Newton, Rachel Newton, Lamarion Newton, Celestine Newton-Smith (Sam), Shelly Newton, Christella Newton (Charles), Gloria Newton (Jack), Debra Newton-Rivers (Larry); 72 grandchildren, 5 of which he helped raised, Brian Keith Newton, Ann Brisby, Helen Brisby, Alice Brisby, and Frank Brisby; a host of great-grandchildren; special niece Bessie Davis Bailey and Naomie Davis Cofer; and also special cousins Ella Mae Jackson, Laura Hamilton, Nancy Murphy, and Doris Chamber; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
