

George T. Garrett, 88, of Bryan passed away Friday February 26, 2016 at Generations Center for Senior Living. Celebration of his life is scheduled during visitation on Monday, February 29th from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 1st at 10:00 A.M. at the Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with Rev. David Porterfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Kurten Cemetery of Kurten, Texas.
George was born September 18, 1927 in El Paso, Texas to Willie L. Collins and Ben B. Garrett. He grew up in Daingerfield, Texas and graduated from Daingerfield High School. He worked as a lifeguard while in high school and for the Cottonbelt Railroad Co. in Dallas, Texas after graduation. In 1949 he graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Training Academy in Austin, Texas. As a Trooper in the highway patrol he was transferred periodically and lived all over the state including Waco, Athens, Atlanta, Wichita Falls, Seymour, Brady and finally in Bryan.
George served the State of Texas as a Trooper for 34 years. He dearly loved his job until retiring in 1983. As an avid outdoorsman he remained active with a passion for fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Bryan Bass Club and The Texas Department of Public Safety Quarter Century Club.
He spent many years coaching his sons in little league baseball and later was the number one fan of his grandchildren. He loved to fish, hunt, watch the Astros, read western novels, build campfires, check on the cows, ride the roads and tell stories, but most of all just being outdoors.
Of his many loves his greatest was for his bride of 66 years, Annie. Annie Louise Heptner and George were married June 15, 1949 in Aleman, Texas. They so thoroughly enjoyed their years with the kids, grandkids and great grandkids. George and Annie have been long time members of The First United Methodist Church of Bryan.
George is survived by his wife, Annie Garrett of Bryan, Sister Fannie Garrett of Daingerfield, Sons, Doug Garrett and wife Lori, Ben Garrett and wife Debra, Larry Garrett and wife Pam, Grandsons, Matt Garrett and wife Julie, Marc Garrett and wife Courtney, Adam Garrett and wife Amber, Joey Garrett and wife Whitney, Wade Garrett and wife Kelli, Michael Garratt, Granddaughters, Rebecca Sevcik, Amanda Garrett, Great Grandchildren, Cody Garrett, Jessica Garrett, Garrett Sevcik, Jackson Sevcik, Walker Court, Cade Garrett, Emily Garrett, Logan Garrett, Delaynee Garrett, Branten Kubichek, Declan Garrett, Brooks Garrett, Reese Garratt, Bryce Garratt, Carter Garratt and Camryn Garratt.
The family would like to especially thank the Staff of Generations Center for Senior Living. A deep sense of gratitude is extended to Mary Culpepper of Generations and caregivers Jackie Jones and Connie Bailey.
