Lucille was born February 10, 1926, in Holmes County, Florida, to Pleasant Jackson (Jack) Amerson of Alabama and Thelma Catherine Kirkland Amerson, also of Alabama. She was salutatorian and graduate of Leonia High School, winning the English medal. She met Jake Canglose of Hearne at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida; they married and later settled in Bryan in 1949, where they made a home for their children Patrick Paul and Laurel Alicia.
During her years as wife and homemaker, she worked variously as a civil servant and secretary to the director of military intelligence at Bryan Air Force Base, secretary at Emmett Trant and Associates architectural firm, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and at Texas A&M University, retiring in 1992 from the Department of Educational Administration. Lucille also volunteered her time as den mother in Boy Scouts, as co-leader in Girl Scouts, and as a solicitor for the March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society. She also attended Texas A&M, majoring in English.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jake, brother Barney Amerson, and her son Patrick. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Laurel Canglose Medhurst and spouse Martin Medhurst of McGregor, her brother and sister-in-law Bernice and Martha Amerson of Florida, her grandchildren Lisa Cangelosi Brown and spouse Joe Brown of Dallas, Chris and Rachel Cangelosi of Brenham, James Snedden of Japan, John Cangelosi of Dallas, and Julia Medhurst and spouse Scott Bray of Waco; and her great-grandchildren Janie, Miriam, Sally, and Annie Cangelosi of Brenham, and Elias and Nora Cangelosi of Dallas, and numerous nieces and nephews in Texas and in Florida.
Lucille enjoyed the Hurricane Creek Community Baptist Church as a child, and she retained much of her scripture study in her declining health. She became Roman Catholic when she married Jake, and they were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Bryan for more than 60 years. Memorials in her honor may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of giver’s choice. Her family wishes to thank Sodalis Assisted Living and Memory Care of Waco and Southern Care Hospice of Waco for their genuine love and support for Lucille and family.
