On Saturday, at 10 A.M., Reverend Monsignor John McCaffrey will offer a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Jane will rest beside her beloved husband, James Tynan, in Mount Calvary Cemetery until such time as we are all reunited in Christ.
Jane was born February 15, 1923 in Big Wells, Texas, to the late Hector and Rachel Willems. Hector and Rachel were immigrants from Belgium who came to the United States to live the American dream in Texas. They settled in South Texas at a time when Carrizo Springs was sparsely populated. Jane often told stories about the flood along the Carrizo Creek that washed away her parents’ home and how she was carried out through the high water on Pop’s shoulders. Pop relocated the family to the highest point he could find to rebuild the family home. Miss Jane also recalled how she helped in her parent’s bottling operation creating all kinds of fruit drinks. The business thrived until the introduction of Coca Cola which put Pop out of business.
Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years James Tynan, whose parents like hers were immigrants. Martin and Bridget Tynan migrated from Ireland looking for a better life in New York. Jane was also preceded in death by Steve Tynan, her husband of 14 years who was Jim’s twin brother, her sister Rose Richardson, and her brothers George Willems and William Willems.
Jane’s life was devoted to service to others as a Registered Nurse. She earned her RN at Santa Rosa in San Antonio, Texas. She practiced her nursing for many years in both Carrizo Springs as Hospital Administrator and Director of Nursing at Dimmit County Memorial Hospital. In Bryan Jane participated in healing the patients of the private practice of Dr. J. E. Marsh. Jane lived the faith she got from her strong Belgian roots as a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas.
Jane is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth and her husband Gil Mayeux, both Texas Aggies who live in exile in Ohio with their children and grand babies. Jane also has a son, James Tynan, Jr. who resides in Lewisville, Texas. Jane was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren, Jennifer Mayeux, Greg and his wife Julia Mayeux of Ohio, and Tiffany, Brittany, and Courtney Tynan of Texas The Mayeux’s also gave Miss Jane six great-grandchildren, Keeghan, Brighid, and Liam White and Jacob, Henry, and Anna Mayeux. She will also be missed by a sister, Florence and her husband James Kittell, a brother Joe and his wife Marilyn Willems, and a sister-in-law, Josephine Willems plus a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church at 600 East 26th Street Bryan, TX 88803.
