

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. rosary at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Martha was born April 7, 1921 in Chappell Hill the daughter of Martin and Amalie (Blinka) Jankowiak. Martha was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society, Gold Medallion and Age Managers. She volunteered at St. Joseph Catholic School and with the Cub Scouts. Martha enjoyed embroidering and crocheting. She was exceptional seamstress, sewing many outfits, including wedding gowns.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Matus Sr.; three month old son, Timothy Ray Matus; three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence Jr. and Nancy (Sebesta) Matus of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley (Matus) and Don Birkelbach of College Station; grandchildren, Toni Beamon and husband Buddy, Sandra Bruce and husband Justin, Candace Suchma and husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Carissa Beamon, Collin Beamon, Zachariah Bruce and Weiland Bruce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Morgan, Dr. Segrest, Dr. Schwartz, Sister St. Anthony, Traditions Hospice and the staff at St. Joseph Manor for the care they gave to Martha.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martha’s name.
