Martha Wood-Unger

September 21, 2010, surrounded by her family & close friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel Bryan. A graveside service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, September 25, in Restever Memorial Park & Cemetery. Calvary Baptist Church Pastor, David Murphy and family friend and Pastor Milton Gooden will officiate. A reception will follow the service at Calvary Baptist Church.

Martha was born on July 22, 1922 in Groveton, Texas to Ed & Grace Dyer. Martha was the owner and manager of Wood’s Furniture Company Inc., for 35 years in conjunction with her late husband, Seth Wood, Jr. She received many awards and recognition from the furniture industry throughout her career and was well respected throughout Texas for her many accomplishments in the furniture business.

After the sale of Wood Furniture Company in 1981, she became the Executive Director of the Brazos County Senior Citizens Community Center in Bryan. Martha was a very loving and compassionate person who touched so many lives. A dear friend to all, she never met a stranger and always put others first. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the absolute apple of her eye and gave her immense joy. Her family was her biggest blessing and they will miss her more than words can ever say.

Martha is survived by her loving husband, Jack Unger; son and daughter-in-law, Van & Lynn Wood of the Woodlands; grandchildren, Brian & Suzanne Wood of Sugar Land and Allison & Matt Salvato of Houston; great-grandchildren, Brandon Wood & Colton Smith of Sugar Land; daughter-in-law, Sandra Wood of Bryan; stepdaughter, Casey Unger of Bryan; special family friend, Ruby Watson of Bryan, and many other dear friends.

Pallbearers will be Brian Wood, Don Lamar, Charles Neelley, Bill Colson, Oren Beal & Matt Salvato.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Traditions Hospice, 1862 Rock Prairie Road, Suite 204 in College Station, TX 77845.
