Maria “Mary Jane” Sifuentez was a beautiful woman—inside and out, yet also a fiery free spirit—and a truly wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was known for her straightforwardness and rarely beat around the bush when it came to life’s choices. Born on July 13, 1947, in Cameron, Texas, she was the beloved daughter of Felipe Moncibaiz and Francisca Segovia. From the very beginning, Mary Jane carried a quiet strength, deep compassion, and an unwavering devotion to family that defined her life.
Mary Jane was the heart of her family. Her love was unconditional, her presence comforting, and her spirit unbreakable. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome and cared for, offering warmth through her smile, her words, and the countless sacrifices she made for those she loved. She gave selflessly, loved fiercely, and lived fully for her family.
Mary Jane had a love for dancing and enjoyed many nights at La Fiesta Ballroom with her dancing partner, Nick. She also loved action movies and always enjoyed a good laugh.
She is survived by her loving husband, Nicholas “Nick” Sifuentez, her partner in life and love. She leaves behind her cherished children: Janice Vega Liros and her wife, Sarah Vega Liros; Sylvia Vega; Santos Vega Jr.; and Mary Ann Kairouz and her husband, Pierre Kairouz.
She is also lovingly remembered by her stepchildren: Ray Alderete and his wife, Liz Alderete; Patsy Fletcher and JT Fletcher; Christine Harris and her husband, Les Harris; Sandra Trevino and her husband, Joe Trevino; Alberta Sifuentez; Elizabeth Koch and her husband, Jurgen Koch; and Diana Hurst and her husband, Robbie Hurst.
Mary Jane’s greatest joy was her family, especially her 35 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense pride and happiness into her life. Family gatherings filled with shared laughter, stories, and cherished traditions were among her greatest treasures.
She is also survived by her dear sisters, Mary Ann Benavidez and Lupe Castillo, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, memories, and sisterhood. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Felipe Moncibaiz and Francisca Segovia, and her beloved siblings: Felix Moncibaiz, Jose Angel Moncibaiz, Simon “Sam” Moncibaiz, Gilbert Moncibaiz, Paula Hernandez, Dominga Landeros, Marcelina Gutierrez, and Basilisa “Alice” Ruiz.
A woman of strong Catholic faith, Mary Jane trusted deeply in God’s grace and lived her life guided by love, humility, and service to others. We take comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into eternal rest, reunited with those who went before her, and embraced by the loving arms of our Lord. As Scripture reminds us, “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:23)
Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we are forever grateful for the life she lived and the love she gave so freely. May perpetual light shine upon her, and may she rest in peace.
