Milton August Byer

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Bard officiating. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Milton was born August 28, 1928 in Marlin the son of August Fritz and Hannah (Feldmann) Byer. Milton’s parents were one of the original five families that started Bethel Lutheran Church. He served on many boards and committees through his lifetime. He was very diligent in his church work and his faith. He loved his family very much.

Milton served in the Korean War during combat time (United States Army) as a radio operator to the Colonel and received a combat badge. He served from 1950 to 1952. Upon his retirement he married his long time sweetheart Gladys Mae Schaefer on the evening of November 8, 1952. They had 63 wedded years together and were blessed with two children, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. With numerous nieces, nephew and many friends.

Milton is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Bobby Ray Byer and Eugene Byer.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys (Schaefer) Byer of College Station; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ross Evans of Texas City; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Charles R. and Carol Byer of Calverton Long Island, NY; sister, Helen Luedeke of College Station; brothers, Roy Byer and David Byer both of College Station; grandchildren, Tara Evans, Rev. Derek Evans, Andrew Byer, Amy Byer Riley and husband Rev. Benjamin Riley; Christopher Byer, U.S. Army; great-grandchildren, Annika Evans, Penelope Evans, Maddie Byer, Lucas Byer and Oliver Riley.
