Rosary and Memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Oscar was born to Irene Ortiz on Thursday July 25, 1957 in Plainview, TX. He was raised by his mother Irene, Grandma Lupe, and Grandpa Pete in Griffith, Indiana. Oscar graduated high school in Griffith and moved back to Texas where his heart truly belonged.
Oscar began studying Shotokan Karate in San Angelo, TX, became a black belt in the art, and instructed others while building Target stores. To make extra money on the side, Oscar would fight other martial artists and cut in roofs in neighborhoods.
After leaving Target, Oscar went to work for the Texas Department of Correction. He taught Shotokan in San Angelo, Gainesville, and Madisonville, while continuing to work with carpentry projects on the side. Oscar rode horseback as a field boss with TDCS for 10 years and then chose to join the Brazos County Sheriff's office, where he became a peace officer and deputy for the work crew division. His knowledge of the outdoors and carpentry paid off in many ways for the BCSO during his 20 year tenure before retiring.
Along this journey, Oscar had 4 children, his son Oscar Jr., his daughter Dallas, and his sons Gabriel and Levi. Although Oscar was married more than once, he found love with Rhonda Lisa, who he’d call just Lisa. Oscar has always been a simple man that enjoyed helping others within the community. He had lots of wisdom and shared his knowledge with everyone around him.
Oscar is survived by his partner Rhonda Lisa, his son Oscar Jr. and wife Angie, his daughter Dallas, his sons Gabriel and Levi, his mother Irene, sister RoseMarie and husband Frank, brother Conrad and wife Laurie, brother David and wife Nicole, brother Eddie and wife Fawnie, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Oscar has friends in law enforcement from several agencies and an extended Shotokan Karate family from around the world.
A very special thanks to Dr. Blum and her team with MD Anderson Cancer Center and Dr. Fleener and her team with St. Joseph Cancer Clinic. Oscar was well loved and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to MD Anderson Cancer Research or plant a tree.
