Peggy Payne Reed, 90, formerly of Bryan, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 14, 2020 in Boerne, Texas. Peggy was born in Edge, Texas on April 7, 1930 to Charles and Belle (Moore) Payne. She was a life-long resident of the Brazos Valley, until July of 2019, when she went to live with her daughter due to declining health. A private family burial is pending, which will take place at New Church Cemetery in Edge, Texas. The services are under the care of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
She married her husband, J.R. Reed in 1948 and had two children, Ronnie and Connie, whom she loved and cherished. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church Bryan for sixty-eight years, where she was involved in various activities and was a member of the Eunice Sunday School Class. In 2016, she moved her membership to Iola Missionary Baptist Church. Peggy is preceded in death by both of her parents, maternal grandparents Claude and Ada Moore, paternal grandparents E.J. and Etta Payne, brother Eddie Payne, husband J.R. Reed, and son Ronnie Reed. She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Jim) Reed Langford of Dripping Springs, Texas, her only granddaughter, Carrie Langford of New Braunfels, Texas and numerous family members.
Peggy relished the joys of being surrounded by her loved ones and friends. She cherished family gatherings and playing a good game of dominos around her kitchen table. She also enjoyed watching all Texas A&M University sports and was affectionately nicknamed “Coach” by her family due to her keen ability to follow and rehash a play-by-play reenactment of each game for those relatives and friends that might have missed all or part of a game. Peggy was a devout Christian, who placed her faith and love for Jesus Christ at the forefront of her life. She was raised with a strong sense of placing the needs of others before her own. This value was one that she strived to carry-on throughout her life and instilled in her family as well.
In lieu of flower, the family requests for contributions to be made to the Marbridge Foundation (www.marbridge.org). Marbridge is a non-profit faith-based community that provides life-skills, as well as a warm and caring environment for individuals with cognitive impairments. Peggy’s son, Ronnie was a resident of Marbridge for many years prior to his passing in 2014. Her immediate family has worked along side Marbridge Executive Leadership to establish a giving and support program that is lovingly called “Peggy’s Closet”. This enterprise will be housed out of the Marbridge Foundation and will provide community residents with necessities such as hygiene items, clothing, and other material articles that assists them with maintaining the basic comforts of daily living and provides dignity to these residents.
