Rena Ruffino Tomchesson was born in Brazos County Texas on January 11th, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of Bryan, Texas. In October 2016 she began a battle with cancer, and when her body could no longer sustain the fight, God called her home on Sunday February 5th, 2017. She was here for 92 years and her spirit will always remain with us.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 13 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5 – 7:30 p.m. Sunday with a 6:00 p.m. rosary service at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
She was born to Tony and Angelina Ruffino and had one brother, Louis Ruffino, and one sister, Mary Ruffino Morrell. She was a housewife all of her adult life and a proud Italian who loved her heritage. She also loved her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Anthony’s Church all of her life. But what she cherished most was just being MawMaw and it is something she will always be to all of us. We would like to thank Dr. Mark Florian, Dr. Julie Wills and all of the staff of Texas Home Health and Hospice for the fantastic care you provided our MawMaw all the way to the final hours. A special thank you to her friend Felle.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both siblings. She married Bruno Tomchesson, who passed away in 1984, and they had one son, Michael Anthony.
She is survived by her son, Michael his wife Norilee; and their children, Courtney Brooke Slenk and John Anthony Tomchesson and his wife Robin; great-grandchildren, Halea LeAnn Slenk, Coltin Anthony Slenk, Bailey Harris and Jackson Allred. Also surviving her is nephew, Johnnie Morrell Jr.; and niece, Beverly Cherry and her son, Benny Redding. Her sister-in-law, Jackie (Louis) Ruffino survives her with Louis’s son, Tony and his wife, Leslie and Jackie’s children, Donna Lynn Westcott and Beverly Goode and husband Ernie, also Louis and Jackie’s son, Clay Ruffino and wife Lynda. Tony’s children, John and Angelina Cunningham and husband Robert; Clays children, Samantha and Ryan; Donna’s daughter, Kate; and Beverly’s children, Courtney and Heath and two great-nieces and two great-nephews survive her as well.
All remembrances will be greatly appreciated, however in lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Anthony’s Church if you choose.
