Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19 at New Tabor Brethren Church in Burleson County on county road 225. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Vlasta was born February 13, 1922 in Caldwell, Texas near the San Antonio Cemetery the daughter of Frank J. and Frances Surovik. She was baptized in Christian faith by Rev. Frank H. Horak in September 1922 in Caldwell and confirmed in New Tabor Church by Rev. Frank Kostohryz and attended Sunday School there for many years. Vlasta attended school at New Tabor for eight years and Volney one year. She spent her early life working on the farm in the fields with the family. When there was no work in the fields, she did house work for many families.
On March 2, 1944 she married Paul Surovik in Caldwell. Together they farmed for 3 years. In 1950 they moved to College Station. Vlasta began work for College Station School District, working in the cafeteria as a cashier and part time baker, she retired in 1982. Vlasta was a long time member of Brethren Church of Bryan/College Station serving on the Board of Elders for four years. She was a long time member of Christian Sisters and S.P.J.S.T. in New Tabor.
Vlasta is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frances Surovik; husband, Paul Joseph Surovik; son, James Surovik; brothers, George, Johnnie, Frank and Albert Surovik; sister, Fannie Kovar; grandsons, Jason Beasley, Michael and Joseph Surovik, Clifford Degner; and a nephew, Jerry Dewayne Surovik.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Carolyn Surovik, Roy and Jina Surovik, Nelson and Teri Surovik; daughters and son-in-law, Lillian and Jerry Beasley and Patricia Surovik; grandsons, Robby, Leland and Brian Surovik, John, Chris and Tim Beasley, J.R. Surovik, Jesse and Jacob Surovik and Clint Degner; granddaughters, Stephanie and Jennifer McPherson; nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to New Tabor Brethren Church or Brethren Church of Bryan/College Station Building fund, or Hus School Encampment, or charity of choice.
