Wayne Edward Wylie was born to William “Bill” and Doris Robinson Wylie August 13, 1949 and was called home to eternal life with Jesus Christ on April 15, 2026. Wayne met Pamela Wolfe while they were attending Breckenridge High School in Breckenridge, TX, and they married shortly after her graduation in the Fall of 1969. Together, they enjoyed 56 faithful years of marriage. Their greatest gifts came in the form of their three children, Wayne Matthew, Mark Edward, and Melissa Ann. As a devoted servant of God, country, and community, this Vietnam War veteran faithfully served his nation as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, answering the call to duty with courage and discipline, and was honorably discharged in the Fall of 1971. His military service shaped a life defined by leadership, perseverance, and selfless dedication to others.
Following his service, he pursued higher education with the same determination that marked his military career. He graduated from Texas A&M University, earning both Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Health Education, before continuing his academic journey at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he earned a Doctorate in Education.
He returned to Texas A&M University as an educator, where he taught Community Health, Spiritual Health, and other health-related courses for 38 years, leaving an enduring impact on thousands of students. Known for his wisdom, integrity, and genuine care for those he taught, he viewed education not merely as a profession, but as a calling. In addition to serving as the Speaker of the Faculty Senate for the 1997-1998 academic year, his classroom was a place of learning, mentorship, and encouragement. Dr. Wylie concluded each class with a constant reminder to “Remember you’re special.”
In addition to his academic career, he faithfully served as a preacher at the Edge Church of Christ for 20 years. His ministry was marked by humility, compassion, and a deep commitment to sharing the love and truth of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Wylie is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Doris Wylie, his brother, Jerry Wylie, his sister, Susan Wylie Thiebeau, and his son, Wayne Matthew Wylie.
Dr. Wylie is survived by his wife, Pamela Wolfe Wylie, his siblings, Stephen Wylie, Paula Devenport, and DeAnna Palmer; his children: Mark Edward and wife Susan Wylie (of Centennial, CO), Melissa Ann and husband Clay Kitchens (of Longview, TX), his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Wylie (of Bryan, TX), and grandchildren: Cameron Wylie, Jordan Wylie, Hunter Goss, Skyler Goss, Andrew Wylie, Audrey Wylie, Michaela Wylie, Cole Kitchens, Ryan Kitchens, Luke Wylie, Morgan Wylie, and Brooklyn Wylie; and special friends Don French and Dickie Hill.
