Richard (Ricky) Leslie Spears, 65, passed away on August 24, 2020. He was a devoted son, fun-loving brother, and generous, kind friend to all. Born on September 24, 1954, he maintained many lifelong friends in his hometown of Scottsdale, AZ while he worked in film and television production in Burbank, CA.

Ricky is survived by his mother, Joan Spears, his siblings Shari (Andrew) Bombeck, Lawrence (Linda) Spears, Karen (Paul) Brown, and Laura Spears. He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces, Margot (Stan) Boulanger-Wright, Simone Galaviz, Dominique (Andy Estrada) Boulanger, and Michael Bombeck; Kandace (Matthew) Copley; Nathan and Justin Hounshell; Alexander (Tish), Nicholas and Cassandra Brown; Natassia (Keith) Cummings and Rose Brenkus.

Ricky will be missed by many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, who valued his good cheer and who will cherish their memories of him. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Earl Leslie Spears, sister, Patricia Hounshell, and brother-in-law, Homer Hounshell.

Ricky grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona and graduated from Scottsdale High School. He liked to travel and especially loved his time spent on Hawaiian beaches and enjoying the California surf. He worked on movie and television productions for over 25 years, splitting his time between his beloved California beach days, and his friends and family in his hometown, Scottsdale. Ricky was a favorite uncle and made time for marriage celebrations and family birthdays. He always visited his mother Joan, taking her to lunch at her favorite burger place.

Ricky imagined himself as the next “Elvis” and always entertained us with his quips and quick smile. We will miss his sweet personality and will console ourselves with the many loving memories we all shared with him.

There will not be any immediate services, but family and friends will hold a celebration of his beautiful life at a later date to be announced.

Uncle Ricky - hard to find words but saying nothing doesn’t quite cut it either.
Ricky was quick to smile and easy to talk to - perfect parts charming, humble and witty. His love, warmth and kindness showered us all, we will miss him dearly and deeply. To his work family that meant so much to him, thank you for being his home away from home.

Ricky, I will remember you always as you were my Libro- is sharing the same birthday (September 24th) but 11 years apart. We shared about 12 birthdays together while working. Sometimes you ditched me on set to spend your birthday with family. I understood but it was a lonely cake on set that I had to blow out all of the candles for both of us.
I’ll always remember your sweet nature and easy sense of humor and will think of you fondly every time I see a C47 (clothespin.)
You were a puckish prankster.
See you someday, my friend.
You will be sorely missed.
