Alicia was born on April 11, 1927 in Manila, Philippines. After graduating with a degree in Education, she went on to teach elementary students. In the late 1940s, Alicia 24 years old met her husband and love of her life, Tomas Bayle, who was studying Medicine at Santo Tomas University. Alicia and Tomas wed, and had 6 children: Rolando, Myrna, Marilyn, Caroline, Marlon, and Elizabeth.
When Alicia had her first child, Rolando, she began dedicating her life to being a mother. As a mother of 6 children, Alicia worked hard to provide for her children by running her own grocery store in Manila while her husband worked in the province for 3 weeks at a time. Alicia woke up at 5 AM before her children to cook food and gather items to bring to her grocery store. She excelled at assigning roles to her children and supporting them through the passions and difficulties of life.
Alicia immigrated to Vancouver with her husband, Caroline, and Elizbeth, in 1983 to join her son Rolando and his family. While working for the National Statistics Census, Alicia continued to teach piano. A decade later, Alicia would be joined by her daughter Marilyn and her children, and then eventually her son Marlon and his family the decade after.
Alicia was a passionate pianist and enjoyed entertaining her guests by playing her favourite music in her own style. While being a member of The Filipino Diamonds Society of B.C., Alicia would play tunes on the piano while members enjoyed card games and socialized. Alicia was awarded “Mother of the Year” in 1991 by the Filipino Diamonds Society of B.C.
Alicia was predeceased by all her 11 siblings, her daughter (Elizabeth), and her son (Marlon). She is survived by Rolando Bayle and his wife Divine, 3 daughters (Cheryl, Stephanie, and Kirsten), and great grandchildren (Mikayla and D’Angelo); daughter Myrna; daughter Marilyn Bayle and children Margaret and Tom; Caroline daughter and son Marlon with 2 children Diane and Caryl with grandchildren (Adrian and Xyla). She is lovingly remembered by her family. Alicia died last October 8, 2021 at the age of 94.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, October 30th at St. Joseph’s Parish on East 18th Avenue in Vancouver. A viewing will take place from 10:00 Am until Mass begins at 11:00 AM. The graveside service has been scheduled on the same date at 12:45 PM at Ocean View Burial Park.
