It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Angela Astorino, wife, Mother, Nanna, Nanni, sister, aunt and friend. Giggia, as she was known by family and friends, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2020 with her family at her side. Although she has left us, we know that she has found eternal peace. She is predeceased by her loving parents, her brother, son-in-law, aunts and uncles and too many other loved ones to name. She is survived by her daughters, son-in law, grandchildren, sisters, brother, cousins, many nieces and nephews who all love her very much and will miss her dearly.
Giggia was born November 4, 1934 in Scigliano Lupia, where she lived with her daughters and parents-in-law until moving to Canada in 1974 to start a new chapter in her life. Giggia looked after everyone before herself and she always had a pot on the stove, baked goods in the oven, and a pantry full of goodies. Nobody left her kitchen hungry. Giggia had some sorrows but her daughters were the joy of her life along with her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. The love she had for her family was unparalleled and this love, along with her deep spirituality, guided her path and gave her strength. Nothing gave her more joy than having her family by her side, to share stories, provide good counsel, recite prayers and pass on traditions. She never forgot her family around the world and could often be found bundled with a sweater or two, having long phone conversations, or scrolling Facebook, to catch up with news from her hometown. Giggia will be missed by her family, by those that were lucky enough to cross paths with her, and all those that were the recipients of her kind heart and goodness that asked for nothing in return. She will be in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kidney Foundation.
