It is with deep sorrow—but also with profound gratitude for his life and for the love he showed his family—that we announce the passing of Arthur Calderon on November 9, 2025.
Born in Surigao, Philippines on June 6, 1944 to Rolfredo Buenaventura Calderon and Asuncion Gemao Escorial, Arthur was the oldest of eleven siblings, three of whom predeceased him: Regina (1949), Maria (1952), and Milagros (2025).
Arthur spent his childhood in Surigao and attended high school at San Nicolas College, where he made lifelong friends. He then moved to Manila to study accounting at University of the East and became a Certified Public Accountant.
Arthur met Josefina Romano while they were both working at a branch of Prudential Bank in Cebu City, Philippines. They married in January 1973 and had three children in the Philippines: Ronald (born 1973), Gerald (1975), and Jo-Anne (1980). After leaving Prudential Bank, Arthur and Josie operated multiple bakeries in Cebu and helped others start their own businesses.
Moving to the United States in 1989, the family was rounded out by the birth of a final child, Patrick, in 1993. Finally, Arthur and his family settled in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1999, where he embraced a new start at a late age. In retirement, Arthur and Josefina travelled across Europe, including to various pilgrimage destinations such as Lourdes, France, Fatima, Portugal and Rome, Italy; visited Banff and Jasper National Parks; cruised to Alaska; and made return visits to the Philippines.
Arthur will be remembered as a good and honest man, and will be deeply missed for his kindness, incredible sense of humour, gregarious laughter, and profound faith. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Josefina; his children Ronald (Aileen), Gerald, Jo-Anne (Jose), and Patrick; and grandchildren Johann, Arabella, Ethan, and Milo. He is also survived by his siblings Elizabeth, Linda, Antonietta, Edith, Daisy, Wilfredo, and Bernard.
A visitation for Arthur will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home (4000 Imperial St., Burnaby) on Thursday, November 20, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jude’s Parish (3078 Renfrew St., Vancouver) on Saturday, November 22, at 11:00 A.M., followed by entombment at the Grand Mausoleum of Ocean View Burial Park.
