Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, on September 18, 1957, Bonnie set out for a life of adventure on her 18th birthday, moving west to begin a successful career in the banking industry in Calgary. In 1986, she made Vancouver her home, continuing her career in banking before transitioning into the television industry, where she built many lasting friendships.
Bonnie was married to Vancouver entrepreneur Gary Freeman, with whom she shared a beautiful life and many treasured memories. She was predeceased by Gary and is lovingly remembered by her brothers Vincent (Lynn) Otterson and Trevor (Belinda) Otterson, along with several nieces and nephews who adored their “Aunt Bonnie.”
A passionate animal advocate, Bonnie dedicated much of her life to dog rescue, particularly Cocker Spaniels, who held a special place in her heart. She personally rescued more than 200 dogs across Canada and the U.S., and her generosity helped support countless others through the charities and rescue groups she funded.
Bonnie also had a flair for fashion and a love of travel. Whether shopping “with the girls” in Italy, Paris, or other fabulous destinations, she delighted in finding that perfect Chanel handbag or pair of shoes. Her style, spirit, and laughter will be remembered by all who knew her.
Bonnie will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, compassion, and vibrant personality.
A viewing will be held on Remembrance Day, November 11th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Ocean View Funeral Home and Burial Park, Burnaby, B.C.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Bonnie, to SAINTS Animal Rescue in BC, or to a charity of your choice.
