The family of Brian McKinley is deeply mourning the devastating loss of Brian, who passed away in November of 2023. Brian was born in Vernon, BC on August 1, 1965. He was the son of Alice Teeple and brother of Marnie, who predeceased him in 2019, and Sheri. He left behind his partner of 41 years, wife Namosh Reddy, his three daughters, Aivrey, Sophia and Vanessa, father in-law and mother in-law, Ram and Di Reddy, to whom he was especially close, his sister Sheri (Kelly), nephew Mackenzie, brother-in-law Roger (Gina), Uncle Merve and Auntie Marge, Uncle Orv, and Auntie Sue (Neil). Brian had many cousins that he also left behind and in recent years he was able to spend time with various cousins, including Kevin and Karie. Brian also had many long-term cherished friendships.
He was the smartest, sweetest and funniest person to be around. Brian’s calm kind and gentle manner was always felt. He was the best storyteller and could hold our attention with great enthusiasm and anticipation. He was the light in our lives and we all love him with great intensity.
Brian held degrees in Pharmacology and Law. He worked as a heart researcher at UBC. He also worked with the drug unit of the RCMP and spent time in Western Samoa working with the Ministry of Environment and Conservation to protect the ocean. He was a successful lawyer working with the Law Society for 2 years and practicing with the Crown for 28 years.
Brian had many interests outside of work. He studied painting, acting and enjoyed fishing and swimming. We are blessed to have his works of art adorn our home. Brian acted with Sophia and Vanessa at Queens Park in Shakespeare in the Park. He also acted in many plays at the Shadbolt Theatre. He pushed himself in acting and in one his performances sang a solo of Mean by Taylor Swift. He followed Aivrey’s lead and competed in the Nationals for swimming, placing in the top 10 of his age group category. He spent many days doing challenging puzzles, crosswords, watching crazy shows that only Brian and Sophia could relate to. Brian and Vanessa spent a lot of time in nature kayaking and fishing together.
Brian’s family always came first. He was an active Dad who proudly adored his daughters. He was a strong ally for equal rights for girls and women and the BIPOC community speaking up against racism.
Brian’s Celebration of Life will be held on May 25th from 1pm to 4pm at Westfield Country Club, 7778 152nd St, Surrey, BC.
The family would love to hear stories about Brian from his colleagues and friends.
