With deep sadness, we said goodbye to our beautiful and loving wife and mother as she peacefully passed away at St. John Hospice in the peaceful surroundings of the UBC Endowment Lands.
Candy will be dearly missed and forever remembered by John, her husband of 25 years; son, Brennan & daughter, Lauren; and her newest love, her pooch, Leo.
She is also survived by her mother, Nancy Chong; younger brother, David Chong (wife, Vickie and sons, Emerson & Carter); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Danny & Shiu Tse; and sister-in-law, Amy Tse (husband, Leslay Fugeta); all residents of the Lower Mainland. Candy touched many extended family and friends over the years with her genuine love, care, support and generosity.
Candy was born in South Africa to Kingsen and Nancy Chong and immigrated to Canada in 1972, making their home in Surrey, BC.
Her love of family and community were nurtured by her parents from a very young age and were core values she exemplified, fostered, and encouraged as a parent and friend.
She made the perfect complement with John, both sharing strong committed family values that has provided a lasting foundation for Brennan and Lauren.
The many friendships and relationships she developed and maintained throughout her life were indicative of her loving, caring, and supportive nature and her strong sense of community.
She loved the outdoors, be it some gardening around her house, on a hiking or skiing trail with the family or on the golf course with some close friends.
She felt fortunate to have travelled extensively throughout the world, sometimes with just John, but many times with the kids, with family or with good friends.
She was the ultimate partner and soulmate as a wife; the most loving, patient, and supportive mother; and the best daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, friend, and colleague one could wish for. She is greatly loved by many, will be missed by many, but most importantly, will forever be remembered by all.
With the current pandemic risk of COVID-19 and in respect of the requirements on physical distancing and group sizes, we are having a private family memorial service. When the circumstances allow, the family will host a Celebration of Life service with family and friends together to remember our beloved Candy.
In lieu of flowers and in recognition of the tremendous care and compassion received by their staff, we would ask you consider a donation to one of the following:
