Carmelo Intile

He lived a very full life. At a young age he left Sicily in search of a better life. His journey started in Belgium where he worked in the mines before immigrating to Canada in 1952. He first settled in Montreal working for a tailor before moving to Vancouver. In 1954 he married Maria and started their family in 1956. They remained in Greater Vancouver for the rest of his life.

Throughout his life he did many types of work never afraid to learn something new. He started his own company, Globe Excavations Ltd., and ran it successfully for many years. In 1990 he became the president of ABC Pipe Cleaning Services Ltd where he continued working until shortly before his death. Work was one passion, the other was his vegetable garden. He proudly shared his harvest with family, employees and friends.

Throughout the years he quietly helped out other people when they asked for help or when they needed help. All of his siblings stayed with him when they came to Canada, and some worked for him.

He was a pioneer and a great man, a visionary who thought outside the box and looked to the future. They do not make them like Carmelo anymore. His dedication and sense of humour will be missed.

He was predeceased by his sisters Anna Scillia, and Teresa di Nicolo, brothers Filippo Intile and Paolo Intile.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Intile (nee Restivo) of 67 years, daughter Rosa Hawkes (Gordon), sons Joseph, Robert (Monique) and George (Christine), grandchildren Scott, Michael, Selina, Philip, Cody (Alyssa) and Devlin and great granddaughter Blair Rose Intile. Also by his brother Liborio Intile (Giuseppina), sister Tanina Milano, his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends, both locally and overseas.

Prayer service: October 14, 2021 at 6pm at St Matthew's Church

Mass: October 15, 2021 at 11:00am at St Matthew's at 16079 88 Ave, Surrey

Entombment will be on October 15, 2021 at 1:00pm at Ocean View, South Mausoleum. 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby.
