It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carmine (Carmen) Giammarino. He passed away surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carmen was born on March 20th, 1945 in Lanciano, Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1962, and in 1965 married the love of his life.
Carmen is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Angela Giammarino, his sister Giuseppina (Gino) Vinciguerra; his daughters, Diane (Marco) Bonaventura, Lisa (Patrick) Sommer; his grandchildren Nicole (Anthony), Alyssa, Alessio and Adriana, and his beloved grand-dog Luna. He leaves behind nieces Tina (Alex) Briglio and Sandra Vinciguerra and nephew Nico (Robyn) Vinciguerra, family and numerous friends in Canada and Italy.
Carmen ran a successful hairdressing business up until six months before his passing, doing what he loved for 58 years.
Carmen was the heart of his family, teaching by example the importance of patience, kindness, sacrifice and unconditional love. He always had a joke hidden up his sleeve ready to share. To honour him, spend time with those you love, "go-slow", and choose humour whenever you can. There is nothing he would have wanted more.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Mount St. Joseph Hospital, St. John Hospice and Fr. Robert Allore, SJ, Pastor.
Viewing will be on Monday, January 19 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings St. Burnaby.
