Cesare passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital surrounded by his family. He will be dearly missed by his children Lou (Denise), Anna Marie, and Jon (Catherine); also grandchildren Gina (Bryn), Mark (Min Jee), Carla, Nicole, and Alex; great grandchildren Owen and Grayson; his many nieces and nephews and many other friends and family both in Canada and Italy. Cesare was predeceased by his beloved wife Gina in 2012, his brothers Teodoro (Gemma) and Giuseppe, and his brother-in-law Geremia De Santis (Maria). Cesare was born in the small village of Goriano Sicoli in the Abruzzo region of Italy. He came to Canada in 1951 and worked at many jobs before venturing out on his own and starting a plastering business. He also built and renovated homes for resale. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his willingness to help his family and friends. He was never idle. Even well into his nineties, Cesare was busy maintaining his home and garden, being proactive about repairs and other projects he deemed necessary. He was a quiet man, but enjoyed the company of others. His biggest passions beyond work were playing cards, bocce, singing and playing the guitar and dancing at parties. Both Cesare and his wife enjoyed many years of fun and vacations with the seniors' groups at the Italian Cultural Centre (where he served as president of the over 50s club for several years) and at Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Helen's churches. Special thanks to Dr. Dana Haaf and his team, Dr. Clifford Chan-Yan, and Dr. Victor Chow for their excellent care and attention over the years. A big thank you to the staff at the North Shore Central Ambulatory Clinic and his compassionate caregivers Lela and Alicia who were instrumental in helping the family keep him in his own home until his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, B.C. and Yukon Branch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2725 Lonsdale Ave. North Vancouver, followed by entombment at the Abbey Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com
