May 18,1928 - June 20, 2021
This is to announce with deep regret that Mrs. Chandumati Rayo(Samant), fondly known as Teddy or Chandu Maushi to many people, left for her heavenly abode on June 20,2021. She was at home with her family, son Cliff, daughter-in-law Allyne and granddaughter Meera, at the time of her transition.
Teddy/Chandu Maushi recently celebrated her 93rd birthday in May via a wonderful Zoom celebration and also saw Meera graduate from University very recently. She also had the chance to have a few video calls with family in India, Detroit and parts of the U. S. She did mediation and Bodhi classes via Zoom/ Skype. Our mother, grandmother and guiding light will be deeply missed by many here in Vancouver, in the US and in India.
Chandumati was born in Arnola India where she was the youngest of 18 children (2 families) that grew together as one family. When it came time for her to pursue her dreams of being a nurse she graduated from a nursing school in Mumbai India. She had taken a job in Tehran Iran. While there working she had met her husband George Rayo. They married in 1961. Then in 1970 she, her husband George and their son Cliff moved to North Vancouver, Canada. During her life she had learned many skills. They owned a Jean factory store in Vancouver but when they sold that store and they opened a new location in New Westminster till 1985. In the mid 80’s she worked for Shylo Nursing in north Vancouver, where she did home care nursing. She worked with many clients and loved to help and care for them until retired in 1999. She then took on a new role of caring and nurturing her granddaughter Meera. To the very last day she would make sure that her family were always taken care of.
To the Marathi Society where she was one of the founding members. She made many friends. Whenever there was a function you would always find Chandu Maushi either in the kitchen prepping food, serving food or cleaning As the community grew so did the friendships. For her 93rd birthday she was able to see a lot of her friends via a zoom call.
Chandumati is survived by her son Cliff, (daughter in law) Allyne and granddaughter Meera Rayo; daughter Shirley Tompkins, son in-law Jarvis Tompkins and grandchildren Christopher, Collette and Anthony along with great grandchildren, Payton, Lola and Nicolas,
Stella and Sierra. She is predeceased by her loving husband George, daughter Benita Ristak and son Frank Rayo.
Until me meet again mom, ma/grandma, Chandu Maushi and we cook and bake again.
May her soul merge with the Divine Light.
Om, peace, love.
