With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Chin Oi Kwan Wong on February 15, 2022, minutes before her 104th birthday. She was predeceased by Larry Man Hoi, her loving husband of 50 years. She is survived by 2 sons David (Philomena) and George (Winnie), 6 grandchildren Elaine (Mark), Christine (Oliver), Jonathan, Michael (Darren), Natasha (Keddie) and Andrea, and 6 great grandchildren Katie, Justin, Peyton, Spencer, Carter and Asher.
Oi Kwan was born in Canton, China in 1918. Her father was a lawyer and a diplomat. She was the fourth child in a family of three boys and two girls. Her home was full of music, as everyone played a musical instrument. She attended university in China, got married to an engineer, and moved to Hong Kong. They raised two sons who became physicians. Although her father, brothers and husband all had been educated in the U.S., they believed the future was better in Canada, and encouraged their sons to study and settle in Canada. They eventually also immigrated to Canada 43 years ago. After her husband passed away in 1990, she kept herself busy with friends and grandchildren until her sons felt it was unsafe for her to be living alone.
Special thanks to her care companion Mei and the caring staff of South Granville Park Lodge.
A private funeral service for immediate family will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, B.C.
