Ching Kong was born in Kwangtung, China, on November 2, 1931, and immigrated to Canada in 1952, to join his father in Calgary, Alberta. He married Ngan Jean Low in 1954 in Hong Kong. Later that year they settled in Vancouver, B.C. with his parents.
Kong was a successful businessman, owning a shoe repair and sales store. He had several hobbies and his interest in classical music inspired him to learn to play the violin. He passed on that passion to his children who became accomplished musicians. Fishing was his joy, and he spent many hours along the shores of Stanley Park and Lighthouse Park. After his retirement, Chinatown continued to be his daily social outing, where he visited with friends who were merchants, artists, and poets. He overcame many struggles as an immigrant and passed on that life lesson to be humble to his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ngan Jean Louie.
He is survived by his Daughters, Wanda (Michael), Bonnie (Ben). Son, Guy Foo (Leanne), Grandchildren Deena (Mauro), Jarren. Great-granddaughter, Jemadean. Son, Guy Sun (Christina), Grandson, Bryan. Son, Guy Jing (Karin), Grandchildren, Nicole, Patrick (Yvonne).
