Born in a loving family to a shipwright in Shantou, Guangdong Province, China, Chow Lam led a truly remarkable life. While Chow Lam’s formative years were marked by war and occupation, her resilience and determination led her to forge a path of her own. After the passing of her father, and with her brother away at war, she was left with the sole responsibility of taking care of her mother from a young age. It was her drive and determination that turned the tide of a life of hardship.
Chow Lam subsequently met her husband upon moving to Hong Kong with her mother. It was through an introduction by a friend that Fai Nam was immediately enamoured by her, and together they had three beautiful children. She assisted her husband in running his restaurant and was recognized as a tough but fair, well-respected employer. In retirement, Chow Lam dedicated her time to her family, shuttling between Hong Kong and Vancouver to spend time with her grandchildren, leading the charge to explore local attractions and hot spots. She was especially happy to have seen a fourth generation, her great-grandchildren in her lifetime.
As a "social butterfly", Chow Lam made friends easily while engaging in many activities. Having lost the opportunity to complete schooling due to war, she found joy in learning. She enrolled in various classes in her community. She particularly liked to do arts and crafts and take day trips with her friends. This tenacious lifelong learner will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank Villa Cathay for their compassionate care of Chow Lam for the past years.
