Colin (Kok Leng) Sihoe passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022, at home in the lovely suite he shared with his wife Katie. He is survived by Katie, his five children, and their spouses: Chris and Cathy; Cynthia and Sandy; Clifford; Clarence and Marion; and Cheryl and Alan; six grandchildren: Emmett, Keegan, Kiely, Aaron, Cameron, and Sophie; sisters-in-law,nieces, and nephews in Canada; and sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews in Singapore.
Colin attended UBC and worked for an engineering company and as an architect with several architectural firms. He maintained a private practice over the years, and worked with the federal government for most of his career, and designed or managed many significant projects from schools and penitentiary buildings to the Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen ferry terminals' first passenger lounges (since replaced); the iconic Don Mee restaurant sign in Victoria; administrative buildings for Kelowna's first floating bridge; the Dell Hotel in Surrey; and renovated the Chinese Freemason's building facade that houses the first Chinese Buddhist Temple in Vancouver. A lifelong learner and man of the mind, Colin loved books, reading the daily Vancouver and Chinese newspapers, and collected restaurant menus. He had many strong opinions on many issues, enjoyed good conversation at the family and extended family tables, and didn't hesitate to voice his views. He was generous, hosting many family meals and a family reunion in Singapore together with his siblings, and hosted niece Shu and nephews Peng Kit and Yeen Joong while they furthered their educations in Canada. Colin always appreciated going to the barber in Chinatown and in later years enjoyed having his hair cut by his grandson Aaron, but was proud of all his grandchildren and relatives, extolling their academic pursuits. He volunteered with the Fong Leun Tong Society, Sit, Seto Clans Association; the Hoy Ping Benevolent Association of Canada; the Chinese Cultural Centre, and the Chinese Benevolent Association, and always championed China and Singapore, the country of his birth. He will be missed.
Thank you to the wonderful staff and caregivers from Bayshore Home Health and Amica Arbutus Manor. The family held a private cremation at Forest Lawn Burial Park with a Celebration of Life to be held on November 5, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery Celebration Hall, 5455 Fraser St., Vancouver, B.C.
