David was born in Guang Dong China in 1955. With his family, David left China in 1958 moving to Macau and later to Hong Kong. In1969, David and his family immigrated to Canada in search of a better life. To support his family, David immediately started working daily after school at an uncle’s IGA store as a produce clerk. To this day, the Chan Family remains eternally grateful for 5th aunt’s sponsorship and Uncle Tai’s support in helping make their Canadian dreams come true.
David’s passion for self-growth and courage to face challenges was exemplary. After graduating from High School, David took on produce management positions in small BC towns and White horse Yukon despite being a youngster who grew up in warm climate China.
Several years later, David returned to Vancouver and worked with his brother Peter, providing immigration services to clients. Through this work, David was introduced to numerous clients, many of which remained friends throughout his life. With his friends, David started Davidson College, a full accreditation grade 7-12 independent school. Despite its success, the school was eventually closed due to regulatory changes. However, this allowed David to change his career to what ultimately became his calling as a realtor which also propelled him into starting his property management company, RDG.
David was best known as a passionate and talented real estate professional. He was a frequent recipient of Multiple Realty’s annual awards and received the acclaimed Top Performer Richmond Division Award three times.
Regardless of what troubles he may have been facing, David was an eternal optimist who radiated warmth wherever he was. He loved to bring laughter to friends and show his care by bringing gifts. He was like a year-round Santa Claus.
During his spare time, David enjoyed making short trips to the US with his wife Judy and son Alex; watching his favorite hockey game and games shows on TV; eating out with friends and clients, and being a mentor to youngsters, and helping elderly friends run errands. He was always there for friends in need of help.
David was a loving father and husband, a selfless brother, a free-spirit cousin turned devoted family man, a giggly cheek-pinching uncle, and a genuine and kind giver to friends. David’s life was not without challenges, but his sunshine personality and hardworking attitude led him to overcome those challenges. He was inspiring to many and will always be missed but forever remembered.
A funeral service is planned for David at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 19, at Forest Lawn Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, BC V5G 3M1.
