Domenico Scorda

SCORDA, Domenico It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father,grandfather and great-grandfather. Domenico was born in 1922 in San Nicola d' Ardore, Italy and passed away on April 16th, 2011 in Vancouver, British Columbia, surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his son Pasquale and brother Giuseppe, Domenico is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Maria, his sons Sam (Helgi), Frank (Marisa), Joe (Charlene) and Nick, also his grandchildren Suzanne (Aaron), Domenic (Kristy), Anthony, Danielle, Joey, Amanda and Frankie and his great grandchildren Dante, Claire and Lucas. He also leaves behind his brothers Pasquale (Maria), Salvatore (Ada), and Nicola (Silvia), as well as many nephews, nieces, extended family and close friends. Domenico, at the age of 19 married Maria in 1941 prior to serving in the Italian Army in WWII. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 and worked for The Canadian Pacific Railway as a labourer and then as a switchman until his retirement in 1987. Domenico was known as an honest, hardworking, fair and honourable man. He taught his sons by example: Domenico's family was always his foremost priority, and he worked hard to give them a good life in Canada. He was an avid gardener who after working at the CPR all day, would come home and tend to his vegetable garden until dark. Domenico's greatest joy was his family, and he especially had a soft heart and a twinkle in his eye when he saw his grandchildren. Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, April 26th at 8.30pm at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver where mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, April 27th at 10:00am. Entombment will follow at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum.
