Domenico Tozzi

Domenico was the only son born to our late Grandparents, Angelina and Giuseppe on March 29, 1939, in the town of Casacalenda in the Province of Campobasso, Italy.

Left to mourn this tremendous loss is the love of Dad's life, his beautiful wife Maddalena of which he shared and built a life with for 64 plus years. Domenico was an outstanding Father to Angie, Carmen, and son-in-law Ike Bosch.

At age 12, he began his studies for becoming a master tailor. He apprenticed for 6 years and by the time he was 18, he had opened up his tailor shop in his hometown. Tailoring was in his blood and it was the only job he ever had. He finally semi-retired at age 75 and then fully retired by the time he was 77. An impressive career that spanned over 65 years and a reputation that brought in clients from as far away as Czechoslovakia, Alberta, and Washington State.

Barely having bid farewell to their teenage years and a mere three months after Domenico and Maddalena were married on February 7th, 1959, they packed their suitcases with grit, unbound determination, and an abundance of courage. Embarking on a ship headed for Canada, a journey that they hoped would create a better life for themselves and their future children.

Domenico found employment within three days of arriving in Vancouver for a tailor on "The Drive" better known as "Little Italy" on Commercial Drive. After 16 years, he ended that job and joined a partnership with a family friend in North Vancouver. He worked on the North Shore for 42 years and cemented his reputation as a Master Tailor and the Guru of North Vancouver. When his partner retired, Domenico continued to work and formed Tozzi Tailors.

Dad, now from here on in, our world will look and feel so different but the legacy of love you left behind is a gift we will always carry with us. You will be loved and not soon forgotten.

Thank you for loving our Mother the way you did and we will continue to thank God for blessing us with a Dad that was not only an honour to have but a privilege to love.

So for now, so long Dad. Rest in sweet eternal peace, you have most definitely earned your sleep.

Nelle prime ore di lunedì 17 luglio 2023 all'ospedale UBC, proprio come è vissuto, Domenico si è allontanato da noi in modo silenzioso e pacifico per andare nelle mani di Dio.

Domenico era l'unico figlio nato dai nostri defunti nonni, Angelina e Giuseppe, il 29 marzo 1939, nel comune di Casacalenda, in provincia di Campobasso, Italia.

A piangere questa tremenda perdita è l'amore per la vita di papà, la sua bellissima moglie Maddalena con cui ha condiviso e costruito una vita per oltre 64 anni. Domenico era un padre eccezionale per Angie, Carmen e il genero Ike Bosch.

All'età di 12 anni iniziò gli studi per diventare maestro sarto. Fece l'apprendistato per 6 anni e a 18 anni aprì la sua sartoria nel suo paese natale. L’arte della sartoria la aveva nel sangue ed era l'unico lavoro che avesse mai avuto. All'età di 77 anni è andato finalmente in semi-pensionamento. Una carriera impressionante che ha attraversato oltre 65 anni e una reputazione che ha portato clienti da paesi lontani come la Cecoslovacchia, l'Alberta e lo Stato di Washington.

Appena salutata l'adolescenza e circa tre mesi dopo il matrimonio, il 7 febbraio 1959, Domenico e Maddalena fecero le valigie con grinta, determinazione e coraggio. Si imbarcarono su una nave diretta in Canada, un viaggio che speravano avrebbe creato una vita migliore per sé stessi e per i loro futuri figli.

Domenico ha trovato lavoro entro tre giorni dal suo arrivo a Vancouver presso una sartoria nella “Piccola Italia”, in una zona ben conosciuta “The Drive" (Commercial Drive). Dopo 16 anni, si ritirò da quel lavoro ed entrò in società con un amico di famiglia a North Vancouver. Lavorò sulla Riva Nord per 42 anni e consolidò la sua reputazione di Maestro Sartoriale e di “Guru” di North Vancouver. Quando il suo socio andò in pensione, Domenico continuò a lavorare e diede vita a “Tozzi Tailors”.

Papà, d'ora in poi il nostro mondo avrà un aspetto e delle sensazioni molto diverse, ma l'eredità di amore che hai lasciato è un dono che porteremo sempre con noi. Sarai amato e mai dimenticato nei nostri cuori.

Grazie per aver amato nostra madre nei tanti modi in cui lo hai dimostrato e continueremo a ringraziare Dio per averci benedetto con un papà che è stato non solo un onore avere, ma anche un privilegio amare.

Quindi, per ora, addio papà. Riposa nella dolce pace eterna, ti sei decisamente guadagnato il tuo riposo.
