It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Luey. Douglas was born on June 16, 1941 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He was the son of Guy and Eva(Wong) Luey and older brother to Jeffery (deceased), Nigel, Kevin and Trevor. He is survived and deeply missed by his loving wife of 56 years Suet Ching, his children Kim (Simon) and Quentin (Karmin), grandchildren Justin, Nicholas, Kalen, Emma, Jordan, Alexa and Haley.
In the spring of 1968 he met Suet Ching during a trip to Hong Kong and they returned to New Zealand and were married in the fall. In 1973 Douglas and Suet Ching took over the Central Fruit Supply from Guy and Eva and operated the family business for another 4 years until the building lease expired. In 1977 Douglas and Suet Ching started another business venture - a convenience store in Christchurch which they continued to operate for another 27yrs until 2004 when they decided it was time to retire.
Douglas and Suet Ching travelled many times to Vancouver to visit Kim and Quentin who had settled in Vancouver and they always dreamed of retiring there one day. In October of 2018 the dream became a reality as Douglas and Suet Ching immigrated to Canada and settled in Burnaby to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
On the evening of August 10, 2024 Douglas passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children at Burnaby Hospital.
