Dick was born in Vancouver, BC, August 2, 1923, to Edward George Kidd and Irene Evelyn Kidd (nee Williams). He is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Ross (husband, Wally Podpora) and Lynn Nichol (husband, Rod) and their families.
Dick was a kind and patient family man. He was fun-loving and enjoyed trying new things and sharing them with those close to him. Early family camping trips preceded years of motor home adventures throughout North America and air and sea adventures abroad.
Dick served 3.5 years in the Black Watch battalion during WWII and was wounded during active service in France. He later enjoyed a varied career with BC Tel, retiring in 1982 from “the boot” where began his almost 40 year tradition of morning walks through Central Park. Dick quietly gave back to his community through volunteer activities and was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers.
With Dick’s passing, we mourn the loss of a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and one of the last true gentlemen. We will cherish memories of him forever in our hearts.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held Saturday, September 5th, from 2:00 to 4:00 in the amenities room of the Poppy Residences at 5291 Grimmer Street, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the Salvation Army.
