Elaine was an only child born in Macau. She immigrated with her mother to Vancouver, BC, when she was 15 years old joining her father who came a few years prior. As her own mother had to work, Elaine was raised by her mom’s close friend whose daughter treated Elaine as her own sister. Her eight years of schooling in Macau included a couple of years of private English Tutoring from a UK Englishman: this skill helped her smoothly transition to the high school by Denman Street in Vancouver. After she became a Canadian Citizen at grade 11, Elaine went back to Tianjin to finish high school and then to Beijing to study Agriculture Machine Management at Beijing China Agricultural University. She met her husband, Chuan Tsai Li, at the University and had two daughters (Linda and Jennie). In 1974, she and her husband decided to go to Canada for their daughters' future lifestyle and to accompany her widowed mother.
In Vancouver, Elaine and her husband owned a grocery store on Kingsway for a year. They then both worked at Weiser Locks. Then they started and conducted a wholesale business importing and selling watches for 15 years until they retired in 1997 at age 60. Elaine had good business acumen and enjoyed going out with her family members and friends. If she was invited to an event, she would always say yes.
After retirement, Elaine immensely enjoyed hanging around her five grandchildren: Nicholas, Cody, Christopher, Catherine and David. She lived her life to the fullest!
