With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elisabetta “Lisa” Barone (née Sabatino), who passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 81. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend. Lisa will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Born on May 24, 1943, in Gerocarne, Italy, Lisa was the daughter of Domenico and Filomena Sabatino (née Candiloro). At the age of eleven, she immigrated with her family to the small town of McBride, BC., where she met our father (who was born in Italy only about 30 km away), who also travelled halfway around the world to start a better life. On May 14, 1960, she married Battista “John” Barone. Shortly after, Lisa and Battista moved to Prince George and started a family. Together they built a life full of love and family for almost the next 65 years. She raised their four children, as well as a few of her siblings, nieces and large parts of the neighborhood where we grew up. After dad retired, they moved to Kamloops to get away from the PG winters that were nothing like the Mediterranean winters she had grown up with. They made new friends and adjusted to their new life of leisure. Children were married, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were born, tomatoes were canned, pasta was made, and so were memories.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband, Battista Barone, and their four children: Fran, Ralph, Ester, and Gio, along with their significant others and families. She is also survived by her siblings, Paul, Cathy, Carmela, Mike, Domenique, Steve and Frank. She is also remembered by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.
She was predeceased by her parents, Domenico and Filomena Sabatino, her brother Bruno Sabatino, and her niece Mary D’ Astolfo (née Papillo). A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at: Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby, BC. A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m. at: Our Lady of the Assumption Parish,3141 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, BC. A tea service will follow immediately after the mass in the adjacent building (the old church). Entombment will be held on the same day, Thursday, April 24, at 2:45 p.m., at: Ocean View Burial Park – Grand Mausoleum, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC.
