March 22, 1924 – October 11, 2024
Sadly, our mother, Elsie Cruickshank, died peacefully after reaching age 100. Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Bob Cruickshank. She is survived by her three sons, Doug (Judy), Jim (Kathy), and Ardin (Donna); her five grandchildren, Sarah (Dillon), Ian, Mark (Emily), Alan (Katie), and Beth (Shaun); and her great grandson, Rowan.
Elsie was born near Govan, Saskatchewan. She contributed to Canada’s WWII effort as a maintenance assistant at a pilot training base in Prince Albert, and then assembling ammunition in Ontario. After the war, Elsie graduated from Robinson's Secretarial School in Saskatoon and worked in that city for the post-war Veterans' Land Act. Elsie met Bob at a dance and joined him when he moved to Vancouver, where they wed and raised a family in nearby Burnaby.
Elsie and Bob had an early and wonderful retirement splitting each year between Lake Errock, BC and Hemet, California. They cruised the Mediterranean and Caribbean seas, travelled across Canada and the United States, and vacationed in Mexico and Hawaii. Elsie and Bob had a large community of friends with whom they golfed and socialized.
In their later years Elsie and Bob resided in Chilliwack, and then returned to Burnaby for their final years. Our family is very grateful to the staff at Burnaby’s Swedish Assisted Living Residence for the extraordinary love and care they provided to both mom and dad. Elsie joins Bob in Burnaby’s Ocean View Burial Park.
