Emilia Salerno

Emilia Salerno passed away peacefully on August 4, 2023 at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. Emilia was known for her radiant love and compassion she gave freely to all who had the pleasure of meeting her.

Born in Italy, she was one of seven children of Salvatore and Adelina, alongside her siblings Maria, Irma, Ida, Rosario, Antonio, and Rosalba. There, she met and married her late husband Pierino and raised her two children Lina and Frank. Together with many in her family, she emigrated to Canada. Thereafter, she, Pierino, and her two children moved again to Australia before finally returning to Canada to live in Vancouver. Here, she finished raising her children to watch Lina and Brent marry, as well as Frank and Carmen. Emilia’s love grew and extended to her four grandchildren: Michael, Peter, Cassandra (Dylan), and Cristen (Spencer). She was also fortunate enough to meet her three beautiful great grandchildren: Cayleigh, Chloe-Mae, and Crew.

The impact of her loss is felt across the world. She will be remembered for her kindness, her cooking and baking, for keeping in touch with everyone no matter the distance or time apart, and the nicknames she gave each of us.

A visitation for Emilia will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby, BC . A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, August 11, 2023 at 1:00 PM at St. Francis of Assisi, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver, BC . An entombment will follow at the Ocean View Burial Park Abbey Mausoleum.
