

It is with great sadness that the family of Gilda Spagnuolo announces her passing at home on June 8, 2016. Gilda was predeceased by her husband Silvestro; her sisters Carmelina and Assunta, and her brother-in-law, Ugo. Gilda is survived by her five children: Tony (Josie), Cosimo (Terri), Mary, Carmelo, and Susy. Nonna was loved and adored by her grandchildren: Wendyrose, Alexander, Stephen, Daniel, and Carley. Gilda also leaves behind her siblings: Tony (Maria), Pellegrino (Antonietta), and Ida (Sabino); her brothers and sisters-in-law: John (Ginette), Nina (Tony), Cosimo (Rosa), Nick (Alba), Mario (Edith), and Anna. She leaves to mourn, her best friend and cousin Bianca. Gilda was born on November 11, 1933 in Arcella, Avellino, Italy. She emigrated to Canada in 1955 to marry Silvestro. Gilda was a hardworking woman, working night shifts, keeping house, and raising five children. Her grandchildren brought her great joy. She always had time for them and never hesitated to cook their favourite foods. For the past four years, Gilda suffered from Lewy Body Dementia. She was cared for by her daughter Mary who kept Gilda at home, attending to her every need, just as Gilda wanted. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings St., Burnaby, B.C. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church 525 S. Slocan St. Vancouver, B.C. Entombment will follow at the Garden Mausoleum, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Burnaby, B.C. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of B.C.
