Gianni was born in Cornuda (TV), Italy, on December 04, 1931, immigrating to Canada in 1951. During his first 16-years in Canada, Gianni briefly worked construction in Toronto, before shifting to mining in the Yukon, in Yellowknife (perfecting his electrical, culinary and curling skills) and in Zeballos on Vancouver Island. He loved spending his free time travelling, including living in Acapulco for 6-months, mastering Spanish.
Gianni was introduced to Elisa Gigliotti while she was still living in south Italy. After a few trips, and a whirlwind long-distance courtship, they married. Making Vancouver their home, Gianni and Elisa raised their two daughters, Rosy and Lorei, with their door always open to those around them. To Gianni, friends are family, and family is everything.
After a sudden battle with cancer, Gianni passed away peacefully on October 7, 2018, with his family by his side.
Gianni is survived by Elisa and Rosy, brother Luigi and wife Carla, nieces Louise and Jane, brother Leandro, sisters Rita, Adelina and Maria, and their families in Canada, Australia and Italy.
Gianni was predeceased by his daughter Lorei, nephew John, and sisters Teresa and Gianna.
